The Yankees could start the 2009 season without a long reliever.
The candidates entering the spring were Brett Tomko, Alfredo Aceves and Dan Giese, but manager Joe Girardi admitted on Saturday that the team could begin the campaign without such an option.
"We're going to have some long discussions in the next couple of days," Girardi said. "There are some other things that we could possibly do."
