The Giants scored three first-inning runs and didn't score again, but it held up over the next eight innings, as they defeated their cross-bay rivals, the Oakland Athletics. J.T. Snow had three hits and the first RBI when he drove in Jason Ellison who led off the game with a walk. Omar Vizquel then scored on a Moises Alou double and Ray Durham then drove in Snow on a sacrafice fly. Giants' starter Jeff Fassero gave up a run in the second and the fourth, but gave Felipe Alou six solid innings and picked up the win after Tyler Walker pitched the 8th and 8th for his fifth save of the season. Giants' Hall of Fame pitcher Juan Marichal was honored before the game with the unveiling of a statue of his likeness. "It is with immense pride and tremendous pressure that I stand before you," said Marichal, surrounded by family, dozens of friends and former teammates, and Dominican Republic president Leonel Fernandez. Marichal's final career win came against Oakland when he was a member of the Boston Red Sox.
