The Phillies are optimistic that they'll be able to keep both Ryan Howard and Cole Hamels over the long-term, but both will command a tremendous amount of money. "We want to keep 'em," said team president David Montgomery. "That's never been a question. I remain confident that somewhere along the road we're going to get them signed past their arbitration years." Free agency isn't an option for Howard until after the 2011 season and Hamels' after 2012.
