Carl Pavano is in the running to make a spot start for the Yankees this weekend, according to The New York Post. The Yankees are considering both Pavano and Phil Hughes to take the role of fifth-starter. Pavano threw six innings Sunday for Double-A Trenton, and general manager Brian Cashman admitted that "he's close to being ready." He hasn't pitched in the Major Leagues since April 2007, after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
