Red Sox May Listen To Offers For Mookie Betts

Aug 13, 2019 7:56 AM

A number of rival team executives expect the Boston Red Sox to listen to offers for Mookie Betts this offseason.

Betts will be one year away from free agency this winter. He rejected an eight-year, $200 million extension from the Red Sox after the 2017 season.

Only Mike Trout has more WAR among position players than Betts since the 2015.

Tim Beckham Suspended 80 Games For PED Violation

Aug 7, 2019 7:25 AM

Tim Beckham has been suspended 80 games without pay after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.

The former No. 1 overall pick, now with the Seattle Mariners, tested positive for Stanozolol.

"I was given a product from a trusted source, who had advised me that it was safe to take," Beckham said in a statement. "Regrettably, the product was tainted."

Beckham also said he presented his case to an independent arbitrator and that he is "disappointed in the result."

"I accept full responsibility for putting myself in this position," he said. "I sincerely apologize to the Mariners' organization, the fans, my teammates, and my family for this mistake. I look forward to resuming my career once my suspension has been served."

The Detroit Tigers turned down trades for future superstars back in 2017, according to a report.

The Tigers failed to capitalize on the height of Michael Fulmer's trade value two summers ago.

According to multiple sources, the Chicago Cubs offered Javier Baez as part of a three-player package for Fulmer. The Houston Astros also offered Alex Bregman for Fulmer and reliever Justin Wilson.

Mets Decide To Stand Pat At Deadline

Aug 3, 2019 12:20 AM

After Wednesday's deadline passed without another splash from the Mets, the answer seems clear enough.

"Our focus at the trade deadline isn't really different than what our focus was early in the offseason and and what I hope will be our focus as we go forward," general manager Brodie Van Wagenen said during a post-deadline conference call. "And that is simply to try and win now, and to win in the future."

Cashman: Yankees Had Trouble Finding Fair Offers

Aug 3, 2019 12:29 AM

NEW YORK -- Yankees general manager Brian Cashman stood firmly behind his organization's inactivity at Wednesday's trade deadline, saying that despite his best efforts, he had trouble finding fair offers with the potential trade partners he spoke to in recent weeks.

"We didn't get close to anything," Cashman said a couple hours after the deadline passed. "But we certainly knocked on all doors and had a lot of ideas and exchange of ideas with clubs in our effort to improve."
