Mariners Not Yet Thinking About Sell Off

Jul 7, 2014 12:50 AM

Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik said he has not thought about what he would do with tradable players such Erik Bedard, Adrian Beltre, Jarrod Washburn and Miguel Batista if this team is still in contention in July. "Honestly, I have really not thought once about July ? about what happens in July," Zduriencik said. "I want to be in this position as we move forward. Being in first place and winning. "I want this club to win. To win now. This year. And they've demonstrated that they can do that."

Freel Asks Orioles To Trade Him

Sep 22, 2014 2:59 AM

Unhappy with a diminished role, utilityman Ryan Freel has asked the Orioles to trade him. "I'm not very happy," Freel said. "I think change is good for people. I think the expectations were for me to come over here and perform in a different way than I did. I don't think I met those expectations as far as the way I performed in spring training. "I don't think I fit here. ... I can't control whatever they do at this point. I know it's really putting a damper on my career, really hurting my career as far as getting a job next year. I'm pretty much just rolling with the punches." Freel, 33, was acquired from Cincinnati in December. Soon after, the team acquired Ty Wigginton and Felix Pie, which cut into Freel's playing time severely.

Holliday Already Looking Over To Yankees

Oct 5, 2014 7:45 PM

Matt Holliday was asked about possibly joining the Yankees while the A's were in New York. "I think a little bit, as a human being, you can't help but to think that if the Yankees are interested I would definitely consider it," Holliday said, as reported on an NYPost.com blog. "I wouldn't be looking around if I were under contract for four years, but I think I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be interested, especially with the Yankees being such a storied franchise." RealGM Note: Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui will both be free agents following this season and so the Yankees will likely look at Holliday as a power right-handed bat for left field.

Report: Indians Could Trade Lee

Oct 23, 2014 4:39 AM

There have been reports that the Indians could trade pitcher Cliff Lee at some point this season. Lee, who won the AL Cy Young award in 2008, has struggled slightly to begin the new season. "Multiple officials familiar with the Indians said this week that they wouldn't be at all surprised to see Lee get traded if the Indians fell far out of the race," according to an article on CBSSports.com. Cleveland might look to trade Lee sooner rather than later while he value is still rather high.

Tigers GM: Cabrera Trade Rumors Are 'Absurd'

Oct 11, 2014 12:40 PM

Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski on Tuesday called speculation that the club could trade Miguel Cabrera "completely absurd." Dombrowski said that he's heard such speculation more than once on networks like ESPN. "Not only that, but it upsets me," he said. "We have no intention whatsoever to trade him. "There's nothing that can happen this year that would make us think about trading Miguel Cabrera. The guy's only 26 and might be battling for the MVP award. It's not going to happen. We have an owner (Mike Ilitch) that would never let it happen."

The Rockies are expected to shop third baseman Garrett Atkins if they fall out of the postseason race this summer, and Todd Helton could play a role as well. There are two scenarios that could allow Atkins to remain in Colorado, if the Rockies are contending or if Helton's back injury flares up again.

Is Peavy In Milwaukee's Plans?

Oct 5, 2014 9:56 PM

The Brewers have enough offense to compete in the NL Central, but could really use an arm like Jake Peavy's to surpass the Cubs. Milwaukee could make a push for Peavy in the summer months, similar to the way they acquired CC Sabathia last July. "That's going to be based solely on how well we play over the course of time," said center fielder Mike Cameron. "I expect for us to play well. We have a lot of talent here." Brewers general manager Doug Melvin, however, says that in-season deals like the Sabathia one are rare. "Those deals only happen every 20 years or so," he said. "But if there is a player available in July who can help us get better, yeah, we'll be open. A lot of things have to be taken into consideration ? how we're playing, if fans are coming out ? "Last year our team was playing well, our fans were coming out and we owed it to our fans, and to our team, to do something."

Ricciardi: I Don't Foresee Fire Sale

Oct 26, 2014 5:53 PM

Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi doesn't foresee the team's ownership forcing a fire sale if the team fails to contend this season. "Honestly, I don't think we'll know a lot about what our payroll will be going forward until the end of the year," Ricciardi said when asked if the team could deal Roy Halladay for cheaper players. "But I don't see our ownership doing that [forcing a distress sale]."
