Mookie Betts Joins 2023 Home Run Derby Field

Jun 30, 2023 9:41 AM

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder and All-Star starter Mookie Betts will participate in this year's Home Run Derby.

Betts is now the third hitter to confirm he'll be part of the eight-man field, joining Julio Rodriguez of the Seattle Mariners and Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Last week, Betts said he would take part in the Derby provided he was named as an All-Star.

"It's the last thing I haven't done," he said. "My wife kind of compared it to [NBA superstar LeBron James] not doing the dunk contest. And that's not a knock or anything, but she just feels like for what I'm trying to do in baseball, bring awareness to Black culture, I should probably be more involved."

Shohei Ohtani Hasn't Decided On Home Run Derby

Jun 28, 2023 9:15 AM

Shohei Ohtani remains undecided about participating in this year's Home Run Derby in Seattle.

"I don't know when my next [pitching] start is, and it really kind of depends on that. I haven't thought that far ahead yet," Ohtani said on Tuesday night.

He leads baseball with 28 home runs, including 13 in June. Ohtani became the first American League pitcher in nearly 60 years to hit two homers and strike out 10 batters in a game in Tuesday's victory.
