Tuesday night's Major League Baseball All-Star Game saw a decline in viewership from last year.

The game averaged 7.51 million viewers on Fox, according to Nielsen, a decline of 9.7% from last year's contest in Colorado.

The game was the most-watched program on television Tuesday night and outdrew the three other major all-star games that were played in February.

The first All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium in 42 years featured Clayton Kershaw starting in front of the home fans and appearances from Albert Pujols and Miguel Cabrera, but the final score looked all too familiar: The American League won 3-2 for its ninth straight All-Star victory and 21st in the past 25 Midsummer Classics.

The game turned in the fourth inning when Giancarlo Stanton and Byron Buxton delivered back-to-back home runs off the Los Angeles Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin.

Stanton, making his first All-Star appearance for the New York Yankees since they acquired him from the Miami Marlins before the 2018 season, won MVP honors with his first All-Star hit; he had gone 0-for-6 in his previous games.

Juan Soto won $1 million on Monday with a swing that is worth plenty more.

Shaking off trade rumors that threatened to sully his All-Star week, Soto beat a legend and held off a rookie to win the Home Run Derby and the big-money prize that accompanied it in front of a sold-out Dodger Stadium crowd.

A trio of star pitchers won't be active for this week's All-Star Game.

Justin Verlander, Gerrit Cole and Max Fried won't pitch after starting for their respective teams over the weekend.

Liam Hendriks of the Chicago White Sox, Jordan Romano of the Toronto Blue Jays and Devin Williams of the Milwaukee Brewers replaced them on the active rosters for Tuesday's game at Dodger Stadium.

About one-fifth of the rosters have changed since the original 33-man teams were announced on July 6 and 8.

The matchups are set for the 2022 Home Run Derby.

Pete Alonso will begin his pursuit of a third title as the No. 2 seed against No. 7 seed Ronald Acuna on Monday night at Dodger Stadium.

Kyle Schwarber is the top seed and will face off against No. 8 seed Albert Pujols.

Corey Seager comes in as the No. 3 seed and will face No. 7 seed Julio Rodriguez.

Jose Ramirez will hit as the No. 5 seed against No. 4 seed Juan Soto.

Each batter will have three minutes in the first two rounds to hit more home runs than their opponent before a two-minute final round.

Seattle Mariners rookie Julio Rodriguez and Jose Ramirez of the Cleveland Guardians are the latest participants to join the All-Star Home Run Derby.

One spot remains to be filled for the eight-player field.

The Atlanta Braves' Ronald Acuna Jr., the St. Louis Cardinals' Albert Pujols, the Philadelphia Phillies' Kyle Schwarber, the Washington Nationals' Juan Soto and Pete Alonso of the New York Mets have already committed.

Three injury replacements have been added to next week's All-Star Game rosters -- Carlos Rodon, J.D. Martinez and Garrett Cooper.

Martinez replaces Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez.

Rodon is replacing Milwaukee Brewers closer Josh Hader, who has family responsibilities.

Cooper steps in for reigning National League MVP Bryce Harper. The Philadelphia Phillies' star has a fractured thumb.

Pete Alonso will participate in the Home Run Derby next week in Los Angeles.

"It's a really fun event," the New York Mets slugger said. "It's going to be super exciting, so I'm really looking forward to it."

Alonso has already won the event twice in his career.

Rounding out the field will be Ronald Acuna, Jr. of the Atlanta Braves, Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals and Juan Soto of the Washington Nationals.

Major League Baseball announced the full All-Star rosters for the American League and National League on Sunday.

The 92nd Midsummer Classic will take place Tuesday, July 19, at Dodger Stadium.

Ohtani, 28, was voted in as the designated hitter for the AL team, then selected by MLB as a pitcher.
