'Cinderella' Fresno State Wins College World Series

With Steve Detwiler providing all the offense Justin Wilson needed, the Fresno State captured their first national championship in a men?s sport with a 6-1 victory over Georgia in the decisive Game 3 of the College World Series finals, as reported by the Associated Press. Detwiler homered twice and drove in all six runs, and Wilson allowed five hits in eight innings to cap Fresno State?s wild ride to a title. CWS most outstanding player Tommy Mendonca said it?s time to put the underdog talk to rest.

After spotting Georgia a five-run lead in the third inning, Fresno State struck for 15 runs over the next three innings for a 19-10 victory in Game 2 of the College World Series finals, as reported by the Associated Press. ?This club has a lot of heart. I keep saying that because it?s true,? Fresno State Coach Mike Batesole said. ?This team has been going and going and going, and they?re going to go for nine more innings.? The Bulldogs from Fresno State and the Bulldogs from Georgia will meet in Game 3 on Wednesday night to determine college baseball?s champion.

Stanford, Georgia Win In College World Series

The Stanford Cardinals routed the fourth-seeded Florida State Seminoles, 16-5, Saturday in the opener of the College World Series at Rosenblatt Stadium, as reported by Yahoo Sports. Stanford will play again in the winners' bracket on Monday while Florida State falls into the losers' bracket of the double-elimination tournament. Top-seeded Miami fell in another wild contest in the the nightcap. No. 8 seed Georgia scored four runs in the top of the ninth to erase a 4-3 deficit and advance into the winners' bracket.
