Some people might laugh at this statement, saying that teams are boring or a World Series can?t be great if the Red Sox or Yankees aren?t in it. To those people I say, where have you been all October. Both the Houston Astros and Chicago White Sox are exciting, pedal to the metal baseball teams, who aren?t afraid to make a mistake. They also have pitching at their disposal and lots of it. If you are a fan of pitching, then sit back for the next couple of weeks and marvel at the pitching match-ups that will be on display. The Astros have the three best pitchers in the series based on pedigree, but the White Sox?s staff is on a roll that I haven?t seen in quite some time. The lowest total combined runs scored in a World Series are 15 and if these pitchers are on, they will rival this record. Hitting will be at a premium in this series, but each team has some power in the middle of their line-ups, with Paul Konerko of the White Sox and Lance Berkman and Morgan Ensberg of the Astros. Each team also possesses good speed at the top of the line-up, which will put some pressure on the pitching if they can get on. However, maybe the best storyline of the 2005 World Series is the chance to see Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell get the chance to perform on baseball?s biggest stage. Both players are class acts and are great ambassadors for the game of baseball. Now they will be able to show off their hall of fame pedigrees to the whole world. So, don?t tell me this series lacks star power or large enough fan bases to garner enough ratings. Last time I checked, ratings didn?t show up in the scorebook. So just sit back and watch this great baseball match-up unfold. It will be worth it.
