Michael Main - RHP
Michael Main Scouting Report
- Michael Main was the 24th overall selection in the 2007 draft. Chose to sign with the Rangers over going to Florida State.
- Born December 14th, 1988 and grew up in Florida.
- Features a four-seam fastball, curve and change.
- Main had 50 strikeouts and 13 walks in 2008, but threw less than 60 innings because he missed the early part of the season with a stress fracture in his rib cage. He already had a history of injuries in high school, including tendinitis in his rotator cuff, which made him an extremely risky first round option for the Rangers. The injury cloud could lead him to transition to a reliever in time.
- Has the potential to have a top-10 fastball in the MLB, because of his unique arm speed.
- Ranked 66th by Baseball Prospectus in their Top 100 Prospects for 2009.
- Not ranked in the Top 100 from Baseball America with durability being the reason cited.
- Seems to have a high IQ on and off the field and will work as hard and intelligently as any top prospect.
- Main has a red flag in terms of sometimes struggling to keep the ball on the ground, which we will monitor as he progresses.
