The Seattle Mariners announced the signing of pitcher Jarrod Washburn on Monday. The veteran left-hander agreed to a four-year deal worth $37 million.
Washburn, 31, spent his entire 8-year Major League career with the Angels. The Wisconsin native posted a record of 8-8 along with a 3.20 ERA during the 2005 campaign with the Los Angeles Angels.
The 31-year-old Washburn enjoyed his best season with the Angels organization in 2002 with an ERA of 3.15 to go with an 18-6 record.
Breaking Down The Deal
Jarrod Washburn brings a solid 2-3 starter to the Mariners pitching rotation. Though he has been known to give up the home run, the slick-fielding southpaw still possesses a solid fastball and a good moving slider. Remaining in the American League definitely helps; I project Washburn to win 12-15 games for Seattle in 2006.
My Grade: B+
