With the regular season entering its final weekend, there are so many storylines on the playing field that should received precedence over what is happening on Capitol Hill. Here are a few that have caught my eye: Pinella agrees to buyout in Tampa Bay: This to me is a sad story because Pinella was one of the shinning aspects of an otherwise sorry franchise. When Pinella came to Tampa Bay three years ago, there was so much promise that better times were ahead, but as the losses grew, Pinella grew more and more frustrated and ownership started pulling money out of the team. Now the Devil Rays must start over and think about what could have been with their young talent and one of the better managers in the league leading the way. The White Sox finally clinch: In what would have been a monumental collapse, the White Sox staved off history by playing well enough this past week to clinch the American League Central. I might be in the minority in this reasoning, but I was glad the White Sox won, not because I like the White Sox, but because the White Sox have played so well this year, they deserve to win the division. So, congratulations to Ozzie Guillen and his players for continuing to fight and hopefully that fight will continue in October. If Rollins hits in 34 straight days, but nobody is watching, does it really matter? The answer to this question is an emphatic yes. What Jimmy Rollins is doing is flat out remarkable and it should be receiving more attention than it is. It isn?t like he is doing it for a team that has been out of contention for four weeks. He is doing it for a team that put a scare in the Braves and is giving the Astros all they can handle in the Wild Card race. If he finishes the year at 36 games, he will be the leading story going into next season. The sad part is that it will be about 20 games too late. So while most of the attention in baseball these days is about Red Sox-Yankees or the recent steroids hearings, I hope I have showed you that there are other events that are going on in baseball. Now, if you don?t mind, I have to get back to watching the Red Sox-Yankees game!
