By Christopher Reina The OPS statistic is an excellent indicator of offensive production, so it is little surprise that the Yankees, Phillies and Tigers are all over .800 as a club. 1. New York Yankees: .832 Alex Rodriguez leads the AL with an OPS of 1.034, while Jorge Posada is fifth. 2. Philadelphia Phillies: .810 Chase Utley is just a hair shy of 1.000, while Ryan Howard is posting a .946 OPS. 3. Detroit Tigers: .802 Magglio Ordonez has an OPS of 1.008 to go along with his league-best .351 batting average. 4. Boston Red Sox: .797 In what is a bit of a down year for him, David Ortiz has an OPS of .982. 5. Florida Marlins: .784 Miguel Cabrera is second in the NL with an OPS of 1.015, while Hanley Ramirez?s OPS is .967. 6. Milwaukee Brewers: .779 Prince Fielder has an OPS of .987, while ROY favorite Ryan Braun has been even better, with an OPS of 1.051. 7. Atlanta Braves: .778 For the 8th time over the past 10 seasons, Chipper Jones will have s slugging percentage over .500. 8. Colorado Rockies: .774 The Rockies are an offensive anomaly in the pitching rich/offensive poor NL West. 9. New York Mets: .771 The Mets have good balance, but only one player (David Wright) with an OBP in the .400?s. 10. Cleveland Indians: .768 Ryan Garko leads the Indians with an OPS of .881. 11. Cincinnati Reds: .762 Adam Dunn has an OPS of .929, which is good for 10th in the NL. 12. Seattle Mariners: .760 Ichiro Suzuki leads the Mariners with an OPS of .830. 13. Tampa Bay Devil Rays: .755 The Devil Rays are the only team to have still not won 50 games, but are in the top half of this statistic. 14. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim: .754 Compare the Angels ERA to the Devil Rays? ERA and it reveals the 25 win differential. 15. Baltimore Orioles: .741 Brian Roberts has an OPS of .857 for the Orioles. 16. Chicago Cubs: .741 The good OPS figures from Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez and Alfonso Soriano are weighed down by the remainder of the lineup. 17. St. Louis Cardinals: .740 Albert Pujols is not quite as good as ever, but is very good again, with an OPS of .987. 18. Texas Rangers: .738 The Rangers have been disappointing offensively, despite playing in such a hitter?s park. 19. Oakland Athletics: .736 Jack Cust has an OPS of .958 this season. 20. Houston Astros: .733 Carlos Lee?s .884 has been one of the lone bright spots. 21. Los Angeles Dodgers: .730 The Dodgers had a .780 OPS last season, which goes a long ways as to why they will likely be on the outside of the playoffs. 22. Pittsburgh Pirates: .727 Xavier Nady has an OPS of .834 this season, offsetting the disappointing campaign from Jason Bay. 23. Arizona Diamondbacks: .727 How could Arizona have the most wins in the NL, but the fourth worst OPS? 24. Toronto Blue Jays: .722 It is tough for the Blue Jays to compete with the Red Sox and Yankees when their OPS is so substantially lower. 25. Minnesota Twins: .722 The Twins have been carrier in all ways, including OPS, by Justin Morneau and Torii Hunter. 26. Kansas City Royals: .720 The Royals had an OPS of .764 during the month of July when they went 13-12. 27. Chicago White Sox: .715 The White Sox had an OPS of .747 when they won the World Series in 2005. 28. San Diego Padres: .711 The Padres fortunately have a team ERA of 3.49. 29. San Francisco Giants: .707 How bad are the Giants? They have a team OPS of .707 despite Barry Bonds? MLB-leading 1.084. 30. Washington Nationals: .696 Dmitri Young has a team-leading OPS of .884.
