By Shane Cobb The common theme this week is the number three. There are three new teams moving into the Top-5 from last week, and three dropping out. Three of the Top-5 teams are represented by the NL Central; the St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, and Houston Astros. Three of the Top-5 teams play in the National League. Last but not least, three teams have three words in their name. Okay, maybe I went a little over board, but anyways, here are the newest team rankings. *Number in parenthesis indicates previous ranking 1. Houston Astros (3) 15-6 ? No Clemens, no problem. The Houston Astros are currently the hottest team in baseball. They just aren?t dropping off, winning eight of their last ten games. They?re sitting on top in the most competitive division in either league. The new bash brothers, Lance Berkman and Morgan Ensberg, are the reason why they are playing so great. 2. Cincinnati Reds (10) 15-7 ? Bronson Arroyo has just been filthy so far leading the Reds with four wins and a 2.34 ERA. The reason for the Reds success though is their dynamic offense. Five players on their team have more than 10 RBI. Brandon Phillips and Edwin Encarnacion have come out of nowhere and are producing like all-stars. 3. New York Mets (1) 14-7 ? The best team in New York, well, so far, have a 4.5 game lead in the NL East. They struggled just recently going 5-5 in their last ten games, but are now on a 2-game winning streak. 4. Chicago White Sox (6) 14-7 ? The White Sox have the best record in the American League at 14-7. They are the also the hottest team in the AL winning 8 out of their last 10 games. The White Sox have 6 of their starting 9 batters hitting over .300. The great offense paired with Jose Contreras? Cy Young like performance so far is the reason why they are first in the AL Central. 5. St. Louis Cardinals (8) 14-7 ? Although the Cardinals are in the Top-5 team rankings, they are still third in their own division behind the Reds and Astros. Albert Pujols is just incredible. He leads the team with a .357 AVG, 12 HR, 29 RBI, and 23 Runs. He is taking over the majors as the most feared/best hitter in the league. 6. Boston Red Sox (2) 13-8 ? Boston is first in the AL East, ahead of both the Blue Jays and Yankees. The pitching staff has been pretty impressive. Curt Schilling and Josh Beckett head the rotation while Jonathan Papelbon leads the bullpen. Papelbon has been the most impressive taking on closer duties and saving a league leading nice games. 7.Chicago Cubs (4) 12-8 ? It?s only a matter of time before the Cubs drop out of the Top-10, even the Top-15. Derrek Lee is going to be out possibly 2 months, not good for the Cubs offense. Maybe Aramis Ramirez picks it up though, who knows. 8. Detroit Tigers (9) 13-9 ? The Detroit Shelton?s are doing pretty solid. They?re second in the AL Central behind the White Sox. Mike Maroth and Chris Shelton are two players who are probably playing the best of their lives. The only thing is, is if they fall off their hot streak, they?ll have noone picking up the slack to keep them in the Top-10. 9. Toronto Blue Jays (18) 11-8 ? Vernon Wells is another player off to a great start. Wells leads the team in average(.400), homeruns (9), and runs batted in (22). A.J. Burnett is on the DL again making him a really bad signing this past offseason. On the other hand, B.J. Ryan hasn?t allowed a run in 10 IP, totaling 3 saves. 10. Los Angeles Angels (16) 12-10 ? The Angels have not played well. In fact, they are underachieving. Although it doesn?t look like it, the Angels do have some good hitters. Casey Kotchman and Jeff Mathis are capable of hitting 20+ homeruns, but find themselves still hitting well below the Mendoza line. Until the offense comes around, pitching is going to have to keep their game they way it has been, damn good. 11. Milwaukee Brewers (11) 12-10 12. New York Yankees (15) 10-9 13. Cleveland Indians (7) 11-10 14. Colorado Rockies (12) 11-10 15. San Francisco Giants (5) 11-10 16. Texas Rangers (25) 11-11 17. Baltimore Orioles (13) 11-11 18. Arizona Diamondbacks (24) 11-11 19.
