By Shane Cobb The 2006 MLB season is now in session. There have been a few surprises like the Colorado Rockies and Cincinnati Reds and a few disappointments such as the Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals. Now more than ten games into the season for every team, here are the latest team rankings. *Number in parenthesis indicates previous ranking 1. New York Mets (3) 9-2 ? David Wright and the New York Mets are on the headlines in New York. Wright leads the team in batting average and runs batted in. The Mets pitching has actually matched what the offense has done. New York?s pitching staff leads the majors in ERA. Great pitching paired with a great offense is a recipe for success and that?s why the Mets are the #1 team. 2. Boston Red Sox (4) 8-4 ? Despite a really slow start for Manny Ramirez, the Red Sox have eight wins and only four losses. David Ortiz has been really good for them hitting four homeruns and nine rbi?s. Curt Schilling is injury free and dominating. He shares the MLB lead with fellow Boston pitcher Josh Beckett. 3. Houston Astros (17) 8-4 ? The Astros are only this high because of Roger Clemens ? wait ? he?s not a team right now, correct? That is correct. The Rocket-less Astros currently have the best record in the National League. However, it is still early and things are obviously going to change, but for now, Houston deserves this three spot. 4. Chicago Cubs (5) 7-4 ? The Cubbies? have moved up a spot since the last team rankings. Sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals will definitely help your case. The Cubs are in, arguably, the toughest division in all of baseball; the NL Central. Five of the NL Centrals six teams have a winning record. 5. San Francisco Giants (16) 7-4 ? The Giants are in the worst division in baseball and are taking advantage of it. A huge reason why the Giants are sitting in first in the NL West is because of Omar Vizquel. Omar leads the team in batting average, stolen bases, and runs scored. Once Barry Bonds steps his game up, the Giants could run away with the division title. 6. Chicago White Sox (1) 7-5 ? The World Champs are back and loaded on offense. Despite a slow start, the White Sox should move up in the rankings in no time. Jim Thome is a freak. He leads his new team with 7 homeruns and 16 runs scored! 7. Cleveland Indians (10) 7-5 ? Strong starts from Travis Hafner, Victor Martinez, and Cliff Lee is the reason why the Indians moved up three spots. Hafner hits absolutely everything. When he doesn?t hit a homerun, he gets walked. He?s been walked 10 times already this season. 8. St. Louis Cardinals (6) 7-5 ? Despite having the games best hitter; the St. Louis Pujols? are third in their division. Albert the Great is dominating national league pitching. He leads the Cardinals in almost every offensive category. His .341 AVG, 8 HR, 17 RBI, and 15 R, are all the most on his team. 9. Detroit Tigers (23) 7-5 ? Chris Shelton is off to one of the greatest starts in the history of baseball. In just 12 games, Shelton has blasted a league leading 8 homeruns. Oh yeah, and he also has 16 RBI. Mike Maroth is pitching really well, too. He?s 2-0 with a 0.73 ERA. I doubt the Tigers stay in the top 10 for much longer though. 10. Cincinnati Reds (26) 7-5 ? The Reds aren?t even on top of their division, but you can?t knock them since they?re in baseballs toughest division this year. Actually, the Reds aren?t second, third, but fourth in the NL Central! Adam Dunn has hit the Reds past their opponents. He has a total of 7 homeruns, which is second in the NL behind St. Louis? Albert Pujols. About being in the top 10, see Detroit Tigers. 11. Milwaukee Brewers (14) 7-5 12. Colorado Rockies (29) 7-5 13. Baltimore Orioles (25) 7-6 14. Tampa Bay Devil Rays (27) 7-6 15. New York Yankees (2) 6-6 16. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (7) 6-6 17. Minnesota Twins (15) 6-6 18. Toronto Blue Jays (11) 6-6 19. Oakland Athletics (8) 6-7 20. Los Angeles Dodgers (9) 6-7 21. Atlanta Braves (13) 6-7 22. Seattle Mariners (20) 6-7 23. Philadelphia Phillies (12) 5-7 24. Arizona Diamondbacks (24) 5-7 25. Texas Rangers (18) 5-8 26. San Diego Padres (19) 4-7 27. Washington Nationals (22) 4-9 28. Pittsburgh Pirates (21) 4-10 29. Florida Marlins (30) 3-8 30. Kansas City Royals (28) 2-9
