By Darryl Reina The MLB Division Champs are crowned, the play-offs are now underway, with San Diego, St. Louis, Atlanta, and Houston representing the NL, the White Sox, Angels, Yankees, and the defending champion Red Sox facing off in the AL. With that being said, our FINAL 2005 RealGM.com Player Rankings feature the "Best of the Best" as our #1 Player, MVP and Cy Young candidates, Batting Champions, and young rising stars of the great game of baseball. This Week (Last Week): 1. (3.) Alex Rodriguez: A-Rod is the best overall player in MLB today, and my choice for #1 in 2005. The Yankee 3B hit .321, with a league-leading 48 HR's, and 130 RBI's. If he stays healthy, the career numbers could be astonishing. 2. (1.) David Ortiz: "Big Papi" is the AL's leading candidate for MVP honors. He was the yearlong catalyst to the Red Sox return to the play-offs. Ortiz hit 47 HR's, drove in 148 runs, and hit .300. 3. (2.) Andruw Jones: A. Jones is the leading NL MVP candidate. With 51 HR's, 128 RBI's, and golden-glove outfield play, he led the Braves to the NL-East title. 4. (4.) Albert Pujols: The Cardinal 1B finished with 41 HR's and 117 RBI's, while hitting for a .330 average. Albert & the Cardinals are primed to return to the World Series. 5. (5.) Chris Carpenter: The NL's leading Cy Young candidate finished the regular season with a 21-8 record, with a 2.83 ERA, and 213 K's. This P is focused and will prove worthy in the Cardinals pursuit of a title. 6. (7.) Derek Lee: The Cubs 1B is the 2005 NL batting champion with an average of .335. Two more HR's this week gave him 46 for the season, in addition to driving in 107 runs. 7. (6.) Bartolo Colon: The Angels ace is the AL's leading Cy Young candidate with a record of 21-8 (3.48 ERA). 8. (8.) Dontrelle Willis: The D-Train (22-10) will challenge Carpenter for the NL Cy Young award. He can hit and run too! 9. (9.) Mariano Rivera: The New York Yankee closer is the very best in baseball, with 43 saves this year. His record is even better in the post-season. 10. (11.) Manny Ramirez: In the final stretch run, Manny had 6 HR's and 15 RBI's to lead the Red Sox to the play-offs. The LF finished with 45 HR's and 144 RBI's, while hitting .292. 11. (13.) Gary Sheffield: Gary finished with 123 RBI's and hit .291 for the Yankees, despite nagging injuries. 12. (12.) He will be counted on to pitch the pivotal games for New York in the postseason. 14. (15.) Derek Jeter: The Yankee Captain hit .309 and had 202 hits to lead New York to the AL-East title. 15. (17.)
