Mets' outfielder Cliff Floyd continued a stretch of heavy hitting that makes New York fans happy he was not dealt away this off-season.
Floyd slammed his 11th homerun of the young season and Kris Benson went 7 and 2/3 innings in his third start back as the Mets rolled 9-2 over the Cincinnati Reds at Shea Stadium.
Benson struck out 8 Reds and is 1-1 after returning from the injured list with a strained chest muscle.
Floyd?s homer was among 6 extra-base hits, including a Jose Reyes triple to right center in the 1st inning. Facing Paul Wilson (1-5), Floyd hit it out on a line, with an estimated distance of 395 feet. This comes after Floyd?s pair of 400-plus homerun balls on Friday night, which bounced off Shea?s right-field scoreboard. Floyd?s hot bat has driven home 26 RBIs in the last 29 games.
Benson set down 10 straight batters from the second inning through the sixth inning.
Dae-Sung Koo took over for Benson with two outs in the eighth.
This is the 15th straight game in which Cincinnati pitchers have surrendered a homerun.
