Kevin Millar still hopes he can improve his 50-50 chance of convincing the Red Sox to re-sign him for next year and beyond. On the cusp of his first fling with free agency, Millar yesterday spoke of how much he wants to return, how unsure he is if the Red Sox want him back and how, if he does have to sign elsewhere, he will try to bring other pending free agents like Johnny Damon and Bill Mueller with him. ``We've talked about all going somewhere as a package deal, as the Three Amigos, because we know we can help someone win,'' Millar said prior to last night's 5-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre. ``But you know, they might want those two and not me and I'd be out there on my own.'' Millar, who in the third year of his deal with the Red Sox is making $3.5 million, is well aware that despite improving at the plate in the second half of the season, he has not produced numbers like a first baseman is supposed to for the offense. He is hitting .279 overall with just 50 RBI and nine home runs. ``Johnny's at a different level than I am ? I'll grind free agency out, just like I have my whole career,'' Millar said. ``There's not going to be 30 teams pounding on my door to sign me. I'm just hoping I'm back here in Boston. ``No lobbying ? they signed me for three years, I'll play for three years. Some players get all cranky if they don't get extensions, but not me. It's too late for me to get cranky anyway.''
