Detroit manager Jim Leyland, told the San Francisco Chronicle on Monday he spoke with Barry Bonds in recent days and that Bonds told him he remains interested in playing in 2008 despite his Nov. 16 indictment on five felony counts of perjury and obstruction of justice. If convicted, Bonds could spend as many as 30 years in prison. "I talked to him a couple of days ago, and I think he wants to play," Leyland told the paper Monday, the first day of the winter meetings. "I certainly would like to see him play. Absolutely. I know he's been working out. I know he's in great shape. I don't know where the fit will be for him, but I certainly hope there's one." But Leyland stated again, just like he did at the end of the Tigers' season, that Bonds is "Not a fit for us."
