Trot Nixon has told the Boston Herald that an undisclosed leg injury will force him to undergo surgery after the season is completed.
Nixon would not detail the injury he says he suffered during Boston's doubleheader against the Mariners on May 8th.
Red Sox manager Terry Francona has said only that Nixon is "banged up." Nixon told the paper the injury is not related to the quadriceps injury that sidelined him last season.
Though Nixon has a visible limp, the injury has not hindered his plate production. Nixon was 7-for-11 with six RBI, three doubles and two homers, including a grand slam on Saturday in the three-game series with Seattle.
"I feel good at the plate,'' Nixon told the paper. "You go through those peaks and valleys. A week-and-a-half ago, I didn't feel comfortable at all at the plate."
