With Major League Baseball's winter meetings looming, the Rockies are getting down to the nitty-gritty in negotiations with catcher Yorvit Torrealba and relief pitcher Matt Herges.
Torrealba's agent Melvin Roman said Monday his goal is to get a deal done by the end of this week. The winter meetings begin next Monday in Nashville, Tenn.
"We're getting closer, and I think we're moving toward an agreement, soon, I hope," Roman said.
Rockies' GM Dan O'Dowd confirmed that discussions have heated up but stressed that bringing Torrealba back to Colorado is not a done deal.
"We still have interest in two other catchers," O'Dowd said, referring to former Met Paul Lo Duca and former Padre Michael Barrett.
