GM Brian Cashman said it was too early in the process to formulate an opinion whether the Yankees would be interested in Sidney Ponson, who was released by the Orioles yesterday. "I have no idea," Cashman said. "I haven't looked into it." Ponson, who is owed $10 million next year, was cut by the Orioles who invoked the morals clause in his contract after he was arrested in August for DUI, charged with DUI in a separate incident in January, and jailed in Aruba at Christmas for fighting.
