The Rangers will possibly look at including Gerald Laird in a trade package for either a center fielder or starting pitcher. Laird is an athletic 28 and had the third-highest success rate (39.9 percent) throwing out base-stealers in the Majors this year. The negative is he had the second-lowest OPS of all qualifying catchers.
There are a number of teams whose catchers are eligible for free agency, including the Astros, Mets, Yankees, Cubs and Rockies. Other teams that could be looking to upgrade their catching include the Blue Jays, Athletics and Marlins. It seems likely that Posada will stay in New York, either with the Yankees or the Mets.
