There is a belief around baseball that Oakland's farm system is tapped out, and Billy Beane said Monday he wouldn't necessarily disagree. So he is looking far beyond the slightly better draft position the A's will have in June, a result of finishing with baseball's 12th-worst record.
"As much as anything, we'll be aggressive in reinvesting in our infrastructure," Beane said. "We've been successful at the major-league level and our focus, to some extent, has been using every dollar at the top, but our long-term success will be based on our ability to stay an organic organization, where we're drafting and developing players."
