Further examination today might reveal that the strained left groin that forced Carl Crawford out of Sunday's game shortly before it ended isn't cause for any significant concern.
Nonetheless, there's a chance Crawford's season could be in jeopardy simply because of the timing. With only 12 games remaining, the Devil Rays will have to feel comfortable knowing there is no risk of further damage before they put their star player back out on the field.
Officially, Crawford is day-to-day after pulling up just as he crossed first base while trying to beat out a grounder that turned out to be the final out in the top of the ninth inning. He'll be evaluated before tonight's game in Anaheim and the process will move forward from there, but it's a safe bet he'll be sidelined for at least a few days.
Crawford said he hasn't suffered a similar injury before, but he did tweak the groin Saturday and was trying not to put too much strain on it Sunday.
