Much more than the weather has changed since principal owner Stuart Sternberg last visited Yankee Stadium to watch his Devil Rays.
Sternberg reflected before Friday's game about the team's twists and turns since opening the season here April 3. When asked about a hot-button topic among his fan base, though, Sternberg seemed almost bemused. Despite the Rays' struggles and some fans' frustration with Manager Joe Maddon's approach, the second-year skipper still enjoys the owner's support.
"Joe's doing a good job," Sternberg said. "It's not easy to be upbeat and positive with all this, and he has been. The players seem to be playing for him, and they seem to be responding and guys are hustling. If and when that doesn't happen, it becomes a real issue, but that hasn't been on the radar screen at all from what I've seen and I don't think from what anybody else has seen."
