Any hopes the Rangers had for showcasing reliever Akinori Otsuka for a possible trade were all but dashed Thursday when he was placed on the disabled list. Otsuka, who had battled forearm tenderness all month, was examined by team orthopedist Dr. Keith Meister. An MRI revealed that inflammation was causing pain in his pitching arm. The reliever, who hasn't pitched since July 1, was put on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 9. He would be eligible to return Tuesday, but it's almost certain he won't have thrown a bullpen session by then.
