In the afternoon Joe Torre and Brian Cashman discussed the very real possibility that Johnny Damon's strained abdominal muscle injury could land the leadoff hitter on the DL for the first time in his career.
Late in the evening, Torre said Damon will start in center field today against the Rockies at spacious Coors Field when the Yankees try to halt a two-game losing streak.
"If he has a physical problem [today] we will have to go get him," Torre said of Damon, who grounded out as a pinch-hitter in the top of the eighth in last night's 6-1 loss.
Damon, who is leaving the DL issue up to Yankee officials, took batting practice on the field and informed Torre he was feeling better.
