The Athletics on Tuesday signed righthanded pitcher James Simmons, their first-round pick in this year's draft. Simmons finished 11-3 record with a 2.40 ERA in 17 games for UC Riverside this season. He struck out 116 batters and walked just 15, limiting hitters to a .220 batting average.
