Members of the San Diego Padres and the Chicago Cubs have been disciplined for the bench-clearing incident that occurred during the bottom of the fourth inning of Saturday's game at Wrigley Field. Bob Watson, Vice President of On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement. Both Derrek Lee of the Cubs and Chris Young of the Padres have been suspended for five games and fined undisclosed amounts for their conduct during the incident. Both suspensions are scheduled to begin Tuesday, when the Cubs play at Texas and the Padres host Baltimore. If appealed, the suspensions will be held in abeyance until the process is complete. Cubs hitting coach Gerald Perry has received a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for his aggressive actions during the incident. His suspension will begin Tuesday. In addition, Padres players Brian Giles and Jake Peavy received undisclosed fines for their roles in the incident.
