The New York Yankees are promoting outfield prospect Spencer Jones from Triple-A to the majors after Jasson Dominguez sustained an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder during Thursday's 9-2 victory over the Texas Rangers, a team source told The Athletic. Dominguez is expected to miss several weeks.

Jones, 25, has been dominant at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, posting a .958 OPS with 11 home runs and an International League-leading 41 RBIs.

"I feel like the last three, four weeks, he's been having a lot of consistent at-bats," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. "The power has been there, less swing-and-miss. He's cleaned that up. The signs have been encouraging."

Jones is projected to see regular playing time against right-handed pitching, with Paul Goldschmidt handling at-bats versus left-handers. Dominguez had been starting frequently while Giancarlo Stanton remains sidelined with a calf strain.

The 6-foot-7 left-handed hitter remodeled his swing mechanics this offseason to mirror Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani's toe-tap approach, aiming to reduce swing-and-miss tendencies. Results have been mixed, as his whiff rate has slightly increased, though his overall strikeout percentage has declined year over year.

"That's a large man that hits the ball very far," teammate Cody Bellinger said. "Honestly, a freak athlete, too. He's very athletic, moves well and is just a good baseball player."

Jones launched a 117.4 mph home run last week, a figure that would rank among the hardest-hit balls in MLB this season. The Yankees drafted him out of Vanderbilt in the first round in 2022, signing him for $2,880,800.
