The New York Mets will retain manager Carlos Mendoza despite owning the worst record in Major League Baseball, team president of baseball operations David Stearns announced Friday.

"We don't view this as a manager problem, and we don't intend to make a change," Stearns told MLB.com.

New York stands at 10-21 after losing 17 of its last 20 games, including a 3-6 homestand that concluded Thursday with a loss to the Washington Nationals. The Mets carry the second-largest payroll in the majors.

"Not good enough, obviously," Mendoza said Thursday. "Not a secret. That's not going to do it. We got to start winning series. Period."

Mendoza addressed the club's collective responsibility following the homestand defeat.

"We're in this together," Mendoza said. "It's not easy. But we've got to keep going. There's no other choice here. We have a responsibility and we have to turn this thing around."

The Mets open a three-game series in Anaheim on Friday against the Los Angeles Angels, who have dropped six consecutive games.
