While the Chicago Cubs called the Rangers on Friday to check on the availability of Alfonso Soriano, there appeared to be little movement on any potential deal for the Rangers' second baseman. Like the Rangers, the New York Mets, the most serious potential trade partner to date, spent Friday pursuing other deals. While Rangers completed the Chan Ho Park-for-Phil Nevin deal, the Mets were reportedly investigating the possibility of obtaining disgruntled Boston outfielder Manny Ramirez. Soriano, meanwhile, reiterated his desire to stay in Texas. He said he was not thrilled at the possibility of moving to the National League. The Rangers and Mets could resume talks today. The trade deadline is at 3 p.m. Sunday.
