The Tampa Bay Rays traded outfielder Josh Lowe to the Los Angeles Angels on Friday as part of a three-team deal involving the Cincinnati Reds. Left-handed reliever Brock Burke moved from the Angels to the Reds, while infielder Gavin Lux went from the Reds to the Rays.
The Rays also acquired minor league right-hander Chris Clark from the Angels in the transaction.
Lowe, who turns 28 on February 2, struggled to a career-worst .220 batting average with 11 home runs and 40 RBIs last season. He suffered his third right oblique injury in 13 months and missed significant time between the March 28 opener and May 15.
Lowe has a one-year, $2.6 million contract and is on track to reach free agency after the 2028 World Series. He owns a .250 career average with 43 homers and 170 RBIs across five major league seasons, all with Tampa Bay.
Lux, 28, hit .269 with five home runs and 53 RBIs in his lone season with Cincinnati. He agreed last week to a one-year, $5.525 million contract and can become a free agent after this year's World Series.
The infielder has a .256 career average with 33 homers and 208 RBIs in six seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2019-24) and Reds. Cincinnati acquired him last January for minor league outfielder Mike Sirota and a draft pick.
Burke, 29, was 7-1 with a 3.36 ERA in 68 relief appearances and one start for the Angels last season. He has a $2.325 million salary and can also become a free agent after this year's World Series.
Clark, 24, was a fifth-round draft pick in 2023 from Harvard. He went 4-10 with a 4.73 ERA in 20 starts last year across three minor league levels.
