The Colorado Rockies must reopen their search for a head of baseball operations after finalists Amiel Sawdaye and Matt Forman are no longer in the running. Both candidates completed final interviews at Coors Field in recent weeks, multiple league sources told The Athletic on Monday.

Sawdaye, the Arizona Diamondbacks assistant general manager, was at Coors Field for his final interview last Monday. He was believed to be the favorite between the two finalists.

Matt Forman, the Cleveland Guardians assistant general manager, interviewed in Colorado the week before Sawdaye. What prompted the Rockies to move in another direction remains unclear.

Colorado had hoped to announce a new head of baseball operations last week. The team's new hiring timetable is not known, though general managers' meetings begin next week in Las Vegas.

There were no other finalists for the position as of last week, league sources confirmed. The Rockies must now restart their search process.

It is unclear whether the team will re-engage executives previously linked to the job. Those candidates include Kansas City Royals executive Scott Sharp, Toronto Blue Jays executive James Click and Thad Levine.

The search is being led by Walker Monfort, though owner Dick Monfort has been involved in interviews. The Rockies stated last month the search would focus outside the organization to replace former GM Bill Schmidt.

Colorado went 43-119 in 2025, the worst record in franchise history. The team has not made the playoffs since 2018 and has not advanced past the Division Series since reaching the World Series in 2007.

Sawdaye started his career with the Red Sox before joining Arizona. Forman has been with Cleveland since 2013.
