The Mets finalized a one-year minor league contract with right-hander Brian Lawrence on Wednesday.
The deal had been in the works for several days, and Lawrence just had to pass a physical to make it official.
Lawrence, designated for assignment by the Rockies on April 19 and then released, will report to extended spring training in Port St. Lucie, Fla. He is expected to join Triple-A New Orleans at some point.
Adding Lawrence provides the Mets with an experienced arm for insurance with Orlando Hernandez on the disabled list nursing a right shoulder injury. Lawrence, who turns 31 on Monday, went 0-2 with an 8.91 ERA in three starts for Triple-A Colorado Springs this year.
