The Houston Astros and St. Louis Cardinals had a trade in place that would have sent Nolan Arenado to the American League, but the veteran used his full no-trade clause to block the deal.

However, that doesn't mean there's a zero chance Arenado ends up with the Astros.

"[Arenado] remains open to exploring the idea, and both Houston and St. Louis will keep in contact regarding a possible deal, though it is unclear how heavily the Astros will continue their pursuit," writes The Athletic.

"According to multiple team sources, Arenado did not want to rush into a decision and preferred to wait until more of the third-base market was established."

Arenado may want to see what Alex Bregman's future holds. The fellow third baseman is an Astros lifer and remains on the free agent market.
