Outfielder Tony Gwynn, Jr. made the cut over the Wisconsin native Vinny Rottino, a sign the Brewers valued speed and offense over Rottino's defensive versatility. In the bullpen, Greg Aquino won the final spot over Chris Spurling and Jose Capellan. Rottino was told of the decision as players dressed for "Brewers On Deck," a free fanfest at Miller Park that included autograph sessions and photo opportunities. He was visibly disappointed. "It's just tough right now," he said. Rottino finished the Arizona portion of Spring Training with a .250 batting average, three home runs and nine RBIs while playing in a team-high 25 games. Gwynn played in 22 games, batting .341 with three doubles and four stolen bases. "They told me to just go play and be ready, so that's what I'm going to do," Rottino said.
