The New York Times is reporting that Major League Baseball has extended contract negotiations with cable providers over the out-of-market television package known as Extra Innings. MLB's previous 7-year, $700 million agreement with DirecTV will make the satellite TV provider the exclusive carrier of Extra Innings unless an agreement can be reached on Sunday. ?We continue to talk and we wouldn?t have extended the deadline if we didn?t think we could bring everybody in,? said Tim Brosnan, MLB's executive vice president of business. Sports Business Daily is reporting that In Demand, the consortium owned by the major cable companies, has now brought in its heavy hitters to close an agreement. These individuals were described as "senior-level dealmakers" from Comcast's Philadelphia headquarters. If a deal is not reached, fans who want to see out-of-market games would either need to switch to DirecTV or purchase online access from MLB.TV.
