Scot Shields, second in Major League Baseball in holds the past three seasons, has been rewarded with a contract extension with the Angels running through 2010. Shields, 31, has 81 holds since the start of the 2004 season, trailing only the Padres' Scott Linebrink (90). Shields led the American League with 31 holds last season and was second to Linebrink, who had 36. The contract, announced by club vice president and general manager Bill Stoneman, replaces the one-year deal Shields signed in February.
