Adam Wainwright took to Twitter on Wednesday to address his late-season struggles.
Wainwright wrote a series of five tweets explaining why he wasn't as effective as usual for the St. Louis Cardinals.
The right-hander was hit on the knee by a comebacker August 28th against the Atlanta Braves, resulting in changes in his mechanics.
"Want to clear a few things up as I didn't pitch like I wanted to down the stretch and feel the need to explain. On Aug 28th I was hit in the knee by a comebacker against Atlanta. Without knowing it, after that game my stride length got shorter by almost a foot," Wainwright wrote.
The pitcher said the change in stride length resulted in him pulling his front arm, putting his throws off target. He blamed himself for not watching enough film to catch the change sooner.
