Shane Baz won't return to a Major League mound for the Tampa Bay Rays this season.

The right-hander has been sidelined since July 14 due to an elbow sprain.

Baz has resumed throwing, but there simply isn't enough time for him to build back up to the point in which he'd be an option for the Rays.

He entered the season ranked as one of the top prospects in baseball. The 23-year-old underwent an arthroscopic procedure to remove loose bodies from his elbow back in early April.

Baz managed to log just 27 Major League innings, posting a 5.00 ERA and 30 strikeouts over six starts.
