It's sounding as though Major League Baseball will expand to 32 teams sooner rather than later.

"We are hopeful ... that we can find ourselves in a world of 32 teams rather than 30," MLB Players' Association executive director Tony Clark said.

Clark's comments come less than a month after Rob Manfred said he "would love to get to 32 teams."

MLB last expanded in 1998 when the Tampa Bay Rays and Arizona Diamondbacks joined the league.

Manfred suggested last year that MLB could seek an expansion franchise fee north of $2 billion.
