The New York Yankees have placed Luis Severino on the injured list with a low-grade strain to his right latissimus dorsi muscle.

Severino left Thursday's start against the Cincinnati Reds with right shoulder tightness. The Yankees don't have a timetable for the pitcher's return.

"I'm optimistic on it," Aaron Boone said.

Severino is 5-3 with a 3.45 ERA and 95 strikeouts in 86 innings. He's made 16 starts after missing most of the past three seasons due to injuries.
