The San Diego Padres have cut Robinson Cano.

The Padres were expected to request Cano's permission to option him to the minors, but the veteran had enough service time to reject any optional assignment and elect free agency instead.

The 39-year-old signed with the Padres in mid-May after being released by the New York Mets. In 33 plate appearances, he hit .094/.121/.094 with 10 strikeouts.
