New York Mets owner Steve Cohen heard that baseball's new luxury tax level is being nicknamed "the Cohen Tax."

"It's better than a bridge being named after you," he said as spring training opened on Sunday.

The Mets boosted its luxury tax payroll from $193 million in 2020 to $208 million last year in Cohen's first season after buying the club from the Wilpon and Katz families.

New York is slated to lead the Major Leagues in payroll this season, currently at around $250 million.
