The Kansas City Royals plan to give top prospect Bobby Witt, Jr. a chance to make the club's Opening Day roster.

"He's very talented and we're going to give him that opportunity," Dayton Moore said of Witt. "And he's continued to do everything necessary to put himself in a position to make our team at some point in time, and so we're very proud of him."

Witt, 21, impressed last spring and Moore suggested at the time that he could break camp with the Major League team. The No. 2 pick in the 2019 draft had just 37 games of professional experience at that point.

He began the season in Double-A and finished in Triple-A, hitting .290/.361/.576 with 33 home runs and 29 stolen bases.
