Max Scherzer is open to being traded by the Washington Nationals and would not invoke his 10-and-5 rights for the sole purpose of remaining with the club, according to a report.

However, Scherzer could use his full no-trade protection if the Nationals are presented with offers from multiple clubs.

Washington's level of interest in moving Scherzer has yet to be determined.

The pitcher's contract contains a lot of deferred money. The roughly $11.8 million remaining of Scherzer's $35 million salary for 2021 is entirely deferred until 2028.
