Triple-A Durham pitcher Tyler Zombro was hit in the head with a line drive in the eighth inning of Thursday night's game.

The right-hander was taken off the field on a stretcher and transported by ambulance to a hospital.

"Tyler Zombro was transported to Duke University Hospital in Durham and is in stable condition. He is currently undergoing further treatment and observation. Additional updates will be provided as they become available. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tyler, his family and his teammates," the Tampa Bay Rays said in a statement.

The Bulls' game against Norfolk at Durham Bulls Athletic Park was called.
